6 Things W/TV Moms

No auto-tune used. No artificial intelligence used. Recording tools used are digital versions of analog effects that existed before the year 1986.

This is an excerpt taken from the liner notes of the latest TV Moms album Celebrity Dust. It’s a reminder that with the technological advancements we’ve made up to this point, we’re at risk of losing the magic that makes our music – made by humans – unique. Its irregularities, deviations from perfection, and even mistakes left on purpose that give our music an edge. But Celebrity Dust is more than just music recorded with the intention of authenticity. It’s a nod to the 90s grunge; the rawness and straight-forward vocal delivery. Frontman Lucas Price breaks up words into syllables, turning those into new rhythmic lines. Their guitar riffs will burn themselves into your brain and you’ll return to them time and again.

We connected with TV Moms frontman Lucas Price on the band’s ethos, creative habits, guilty pleasures and more.

1/ETHOS

Making art can be therapeutic. Making something that impacts another individual is something else entirely.

2/INFLUENCES

Haruki Murikami (author), the Jesus and Mary Chain, Scrunchies, Screaming Females

3/CREATIVE HABITS

If I’m trying to write a song, I can’t. But if I’m working, driving, watching tv… then something will pop up. Maybe not having songwriting habits is better.

4/GUILTY PLEASURES

Third Eye Blind. The music of SpongeBob SquarePants. Enka-style Japanese music.

5/IDEAL STUDIO SPACE

A place we can be comfortable. If there is a kitchen, even better.

6/TOUR PREP

We are eco-minded band. When possible, we take mass transit everywhere. Calculating layover/transfers, scheduling for soundcheck, and finding places where we can sleep. Avoiding crowded places where we might catch a cold/illness. Getting cardio exercise and having extra rehearsal is good too.

Celebrity Dust is out now. The band is always on tour, so find them on Instagram.
