It’s been decades since 90s alternative and grunge had everyone in a chokehold. Its influence though is still everpresent in today’s music. The UK trio I See Orange is one of those bands inspired by the sound of loud guitars, dynamics and a lyrical imagery that is both soft and violent at the same time. The band is fronted by Mexican vocalist/bassist Giselle Medina with guitarist/backing vocalist Cameron Hill and drummer Charlie Hill.

We spoke to I See Orange about mixing up their setlist, festival energy, pre-show tequila shots and the albums that changed everything.

Homebase: Swindon, England in the UK. Giselle (vocalist/bassist) is from Sinaloa, Mexico but resides in the UK.
How would you describe The New Colossus Festival? We had an amazing time playing the New Colossus Festival in New York. We were lucky enough to play three shows in total, two at Pianos and one at Baker Falls with the Spanish Wave. Both venues were amazing and we got incredible energy from the crowds and got to share the stage with and see so many incredible bands from all over the world! Our highlight band from The New Colossus was Mannequin Death Squad. It’s so cool that we were able to play in New York in a festival that really championed new and up and coming bands.
How do you build your setlist? We try to make it as energetic as possible as we love to rock the stage out. We like to add at least two slower songs for the audience to enjoy but also for us to catch our breath.
What’s one album that changed everything for you?
Giselle: Nervermind - Nirvana
Charlie: Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Cameron: Himalayan - Band of Skulls
Favorite venue to play in your city? The Victoria in Swindon.
Do you have any pre-show rituals? We get together and do a little toast with a tequila shot for having a show to play. (I personally do a little protection praying/manifesting in my head ‘arriba, abajo, al centro y pa adentro’ to give it all).
