Last week, Brooklyn queer femme punk band SHAGGO released their debut album Chores. In our new episode of OBJECTS band members Lucy Rinzler-Day and Carina Greenberg share an Aggretsuko plushie and a bass with “magical punk powers.”
The Sanrio character is a 25 year old accountant who goes from working a corporate job to letting out all her aggressions at the karaoke bar.
As Lucy explains, “On her day-to-day she has a sweet, pretty voice but then she goes into this rage vocal effect when she sings and performs. We do this as well on Chores. On “My House,” for example, the bridge is very scream-heavy and expressive–[the narrator] is frustrated with ‘doing it all just for you’ and ‘sick of being clean.’”
Meanwhile, Carina shares a hand-painted bass. The instrument originally belonged to Lucy’s father, who was in a punk band. SHAGGO transformed one of their songs into what you hear on “Big Trash Night.”
Watch the video below and in the words of Carina, “Listen to Chores!”
