soundvsystem records compilation daylight x darknight is out
soundvsystem records releases its first compilation ‘daylight x darknight’
Today we’re very excited to release our debut compilation daylight x darknight! It’s an attempt to capture indie music’s many shades. Across the compilation, the songs move between shimmering, melodic moments and heavier, more shadowy textures. The result is a compilation that feels both cohesive and unpredictable, much like the scenes it pulls from.
The initial idea was to put together a release on cassette, with each side focusing on a specific style or genre. Instead, we focused on the flow of the overall story, while still keeping in mind the colors of the songs.
On Side A, we feature songs from Phantom Wave and Weird Era, whose work leans heavy on guitar textured soundscapes. You’ll also hear dark pop artist navel grazr exploring a new side on her new wave song “PUFF PIECE.” The Pin-Up Sisters and real life sisters Dear Dorrit also contribute their punk and post-rock songs. Lesbiana’s raw and deeply personal voice note closes us out.
Side B fades in with Brooklyn post-punk act doubleshot, though we’re quickly swimming in a pool of distortion with Iceblynk. Portland’s SNAKEY DUBLAY speeds through the moonlit desert on “DEATH VALLEY,” and GLICH3 blends electronic beats with guitars. The Photocopies shares their darkest work “Constant Reminders.” Closing out Side B is Exit Moon, whose song “Camera Shy” has us asking, “where should we go next?”
daylight x darknight is available to stream on all DSPs and can be purchased in digital format and a Limited Edition Black Marble cassette.
