Jackal Twins create a lane of their own with their debut album Cuzco
Formed by friends Ben Trussell and Mike Palumbo in 2017, Jackal Twins began as an experiment in pushing heavy, chaotic sounds to their limits. Joined by bassist Dante Lamusta in 2019, the trio channels their raw chemistry into Cuzco, a record they describe as “psychedelic noisy tunes for the hopeless romantic.” Blending elements of mathcore, jazz, noise, metal, and punk, the album delivers a visceral, full-body experience. Cuzco captures the band’s balance of rage, vulnerability, and unrelenting energy.
Get to know Lesbiana
In our latest artist profile, we feature experimental indie rock/folk act Lesbiana. Her contribution to our compilation daylight x darknight is a personal and powerful “stream-of-consciousness song” written in high school. In our “Get to know” article, we discuss influences, processing emotions through songwriting, strange comparisons, and synth folk.
Get to know Lo
On her debut EP Over the Forest, artist and composer Loïs de Vries, known as Lo, explores the idea of “mystical pop” — a genre she describes as emotional, atmospheric, and rooted in experimentation. Across the release, Lo crafts a sonic world that is both soothing and strange, using sparse instrumentation and layered vocal harmonies to evoke introspection and possibility. In our interview, she discusses the healing nature of music, the influence of her musical family, and overcoming self-doubt in the creative process. Read our conversation.

Genre is death @ The New Colossus Festival 2025
The NYC music festival The New Colossus took over eleven venues this year. Featuring 200 bands, the six day event had something for everyone. From indie pop to goth rock and art-punk, the event featured some of the best emerging talent from all over the world.
This year we had a chance to speak with a variety of performers and over the coming weeks, we will be sharing those conversations. To kick off our series, we spoke with New York’s Genre is death after their 30-minute set at The New Colossus Goth Post-Punk Party hosted by Bowery Electric.

FOSS on the transformational act of a creative reset
In the Winter of 2020, Grammy-nominated pianist and composer Romain Collin traveled to Iceland for a creative reset. Due to COVID lockdowns, Collin spent six months in a remote cabin writing music. Upon his return, Collin and multi-Grammy award-winning producer Jeremy Loucas worked for a month. Together, as FOSS, they finished the album Shapeless. Read our Q&A with Collin, where we chat about audio & visual work, working in isolation, being inspired by nature and circumstances, and more.
Rontronik on ‘Zero Eight’
In July, New York producer/DJ/creative director Rontronik (Ron Croudy) released his latest album, Zero Eight. Recorded live, the 40-minute project reflects on the period following the COVID lockdown with its experimental, ambient, and noise-driven sound. Growing up in Flint, Michigan, Croudy was influenced by the Detroit techno and Chicago house scenes, as well as industrial and jazz music. Those sounds would shape his eclectic musical style. After experimenting with electronic music in college and co-founding the label Töshöklabs, Croudy began releasing his own work. Zero Eight, conceived during the transition out of quarantine and initially performed live via streaming, captures the uncertainty and anticipation of a world reopening. We spoke with Rontronik to discuss growing up in Flint, his influences, and more.
