Two things can be true at once. We can be realistic about the present and trust that things will turn out well. San Francisco post-rock/shoegaze act Analog Dream explores that middle ground on their new EP The Shape Of Us.
That duality of cynicism and hope collides in their music. On the energetic opening track “Dystopian,” the band climbs through the darkness of our current socio-political state, and looks toward the light signaling to others that a way out is possible. On the shoegaze-influenced “The Shape Of Us,” Analog Dream traces the outlines of past relationships, channeling a feeling of introspection and self-awareness. It’s that moment you realize that time has a way of shifting things beyond your own control. Midway through the EP, 'Velvet Knives' turns the focus to betrayal by those we hold closest. “By A Thread” and “8.13” deepen that emotional landscape, rounding out a cohesive listen that moves between tension and release. These songs are landmarks of a life lived, the experiences that quietly shape who we are from the inside out.
