Dead Leaf Echo - Rings (The Veldt Remix)
It’s been almost two years since New York shoegaze/noise pop project Dead Leaf Echo dropped their album The Mercy of Women. The release evolved over the years, with some songs being written back in 2016. Now the trio has shared a new remix of their song “Rings”—from that same album—by shoegaze/dream pop trailblazers The Veldt.
"The lyrics are very important to the song and were all done in one take during the recording which has been taken from the second album as just an instrumental,” says frontman LG Galleon. “It is a story for all the lone wolves that move from the country to the city only to find despair, destruction and the death of friends and the dissolution of misery combined with self-realization in the moment of the song."
The new mix by The Veldt brings a new level of melancholy to the song, with the ethereal organ providing the backdrop. “I gave it to The Veldt's Alex Cox who did some incredible production from scratch and then Danny Chavis added heavenly guitars," Galleon explains.
Listen to the remix of “Rings” below. Dead Leaf Echo is currently on tour in the EU. On June 19, they will return to Brooklyn playing a show at The Meadows alongside The Veldt and Iceblynk. Tickets are on sale now. The band is currently working on their second LP, to be released in the fall. You can also pick up their second EP Truth which is available for the first time on vinyl via Daydream Records here.
Alt-rock duo Gardenia are making big noise with just two people. On their new EP Don’t Look Up, Ryan Zakin and Tamir Malik channel thunderous drums, distorted bass riffs, and sharp, storytelling lyrics that reflect daily occurrences as well as the chaos of the world around them. Produced by Jack Shirley (Gouge Away, Deafheaven), the three-song release pushes their sound to new heights. We spoke with the band about breaking through creative blocks, optimizing studio spaces, stoner rock and underrated records. Check out the our interview to learn “6 Things” about New York’s Gardenia.
