CorMae - ADHD
Austin punks CorMae have released their new bop “ADHD”. It’s a what-did-you-say-I-was-thinking-about-something-else anthem. The lyrics are delivered with a rapid fire intensity, quickly moving between one thought to another within the same line. The band is currently on tour supporting Of Montreal and will be stopping at Webster Hall on 6/23.
Myra Lee - Dean
Brooklyn alt-rock act Myra Lee is releasing their debut album Capture The Flag next month. Their latest single “Dean” explores the brush with mortality. "My youngest sister, Ondine, had multiple near death experiences before she was 2 years old,” says vocalist Tahlia Amanson. “I wrote Dean specifically highlighting the one summer when my mother brought us to the docks to go swimming. She handed Ondine to my other sister, who didn't catch her and Ondine fell into the water, sinking beneath the surface unable to swim. We thought we lost her, again." Capture The Flag is out 6/26.
Nara’s Room - Dean
Brooklyn indie project Nara’s Room just dropped their new album Tearless, thoughtless. On the third single “Reseda”, Nara Avakian says, “This song is a breakup song, before the breakup even happened. It’s a song about knowing something is over. I think when I experience change and loss, I tend to recede toward familiar places and things that no longer exist anymore. Reseda Blvd is a long and winding road in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, where I grew up. It intersects with Sesnon Blvd. These roads intersect at almost the exact point of my childhood home, now gone, and yet I still recede. The loss of this relationship led me to recede to the idealized past of Reseda Blvd.” Nora’s Room plays a duo set at Fire Talk Shop on 5/27.
Paycheque - Temporary Love
LA synth pop act Paycheque are releasing their debut LP next month. Their latest single “Temporary Love” dials into the temporary nature of life. “This song is about embracing impermanence,” the band says. “We think this song has a bit of a city pop flavor in terms of the arrangement and nods heavily to YMO with the vocoder backing vocals on the chorus." Paycheque is out 6/12 via Berlin-based indie Mansions and Millions.
Carol - Star
On her single “Star”, Carol takes a minimalist approach, slowly stacking new sounds. "‘Star’ felt like the beginning of a world I didn’t fully understand while I was building it — something fragile, layered, and open.” The song is part of an upcoming EP, which Carol says she wanted to “slow everything down and focus on how sound itself can carry emotion, sometimes more than words."
