Tracks from THICK, Jean Deaux, Brookelen, Josefin Öhrn and Clan of Xymox are the picks of the week.
You can also listen to ‘the faves’ where you can see more of our recent finds.
Jean Deaux - Immaculate
On “Immaculate”, Chicago artist Jean Deaux breaks it all down. “Hip Hop is culture,” Deaux says. “It's a religion. It’s resistance. It’s history. One rich with desire for liberation, and the intimate inner workings of the divine feminine. It's time to start treating Hip Hop as such.” Watch the self-directed video, where Deaux pays tribute to Black women artists.
Brookelen - omen
LA indie rock act Brooklen is back with “Omen,” off their upcoming EP dark side of the sun. On the song, she shares, “'Omen' is my witch-rocky anthem for following warning, prophetic signs that all lead back to self-actualization, independence, queerness, and embracing myself." Check out the video which was shot at the gothic home of Jessicka Addams (Jack Off Jill, Scarling), who also makes an onscreen appearance.
THICK - Heavy Metal
THICK pushes back against the system on their new single “Heavy Metal.” As the band says, “This song started as a verse or two after the Berkeley study came out about heavy metals being found in tampons and snowballed into a larger indictment of the systemic violations that we carry around every day.” The song was finished at Brooklyn’s Studio G, with the band standing together in the booth and recording the vocals in one take.
Josefin Öhrn - Lose Yourself
London-based Josefin Öhrn has released her debut solo album Cherry. She also shared the music video for the duet “Lose Yourself”, which features Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre). The pair are joined by Andy Bell (Ride/Oasis) on guitar and Björn Yttling (Peter, Bjorn and Paul) on piano and Casio Synthesizer.
Clan of Xymox - Broken Heart
Dark wave/goth act Clan of Xymox has dropped the double single “Broken Heart”/”Fire”. Describing “Broken Heart, Clan of Xymox co-founder and frontman Ronny Moorings says it’s “a journey through heartbreak, desire and emotional combustion.” The intention was to “to capture the tension between losing someone and still being consumed by them.” This is the band’s first material since their 2024 album Exodus.
