Good Flying Birds - Eric’s Eyes

Guitar pop band Good Flying Birds has signed with Carpark and Smoking Room. On their new single “Eric’s Eyes,” band member Kellen Baker says, “Has the world had enough of silly love songs?? We are asking once more. Written and recorded quickly on a rainy autumn evening. An utterly ridiculous moment of innocent infatuation through the lens of mad planets, early mbv, and rocketship, or at least that was the intention.“ Good Flying Birds is on tour this summer, supporting Ducks Ltd in the midwest.

Fox Medicine - Marla Singer

Bubblegum doom band Fox Medicine has released a new song inspired by kitty cat shenanigans. As band leader Neezy Dynamite explains, "I wrote Marla Singer last summer after my main kitty cat Piffy got a girlfriend. This gorgeous mystery cat would show up in our yard and wait for Piffy to come out and they would run off together. After a while things got crazy and Piffy was beating up all the other neighborhood cats on the daily. We didn't know the girlfriend's name so we named her Marla, as a reference to Fight Club. Fun fact, author Chuck Palahniuk lives in Portland also!” The Portland trio is currently in the studio working on a new album.

Sophia Center - Signals

Today, Pasadena indie rock singer-songwriter Sophia Center announced her debut EP The Kids’ Table. “Ever since I’ve stepped into adulthood, there's been a shift in how I approach things,” she says speaking on the title. “I tend to lean into dramatics naturally, so I’m leaning into that even more for the sake of the song.” The Kids’ Table is out 10/10.

Rip Van Winkle - By The Water

Rip Van Winkle, the project by Robert Pollard of Guided By Voices, has released their debut album Blasphemy. It’s described as “the weirdest thing Bob has made in a long time… reminiscent of the no-holds-barred experimentalism of Vampire on Titus.” Speaking of Guided By Voices… the band has released a "bootleg" live album, Goodnight El Dorado, which is available on a limited 1500 vinyl run. Blasphemy is out now via Splendid Research.

maphe - you’re so cool

London-based queer pop singer-songwriter maphe has unveiled her single “you’re so cool.” “This song documents the experience of unrequited love and pretending that you’re happy with a casual relationship when actually it’s crushing you,” she says. “But you know, in a catchy way.” This one’s a bop.
