soudvsystem x Dewey

Hopeful and anticipating the next move. That sums up Dewey’s debut Summer on a Curb in six words. It’s an album full of playful rhythms (“Void”), spellbinding synths (“Jinx”), crunchy guitars (“Summer on a Curb”) and vocalist Matthieu Berton’s heartfelt delivery.

To commemorate its release, Dewey curated a playlist of songs that influenced their work. The tracklist places lofi electronica alongside Japanese shoegaze and British alternative rock. Inspired by their predecessors, Dewey channels emotional depth and contemporary sounds through their own filter.

Slow Pulp - Doubt

Slow Pulp is a pretty cult band for me. The 00s beat / summer vibe you also find in bands like Wishy, Somoh, etc. really resonates with the sounds I grew up with during my teenage years. We tried to capture that vibe in some of our tracks.

Hotline TNT - Lawyers in Love

“Lawyers in Love” by Hotline TNT was a huge slap in the face when I first discovered it. What struck me the most in the writing (aside from the killer vocal melody) was the way the guitars play with rhythmic accents, which feels quite unexpected rhythmically. The song remains very accessible even though, in itself, it’s pretty unlikely.

Bryan’s Magic Tears - Ghetto Blaster

I really love Bryan’s Magic Tears, and I think I was heavily inspired by their first album 4AM, especially in terms of aggressive guitar textures and hazy, washed-out vocals. That album is a real gem.

The Servant – Orchestra

“Orchestra” is a rather strange track. I used to listen to it when I was a teenager, but I don’t think I particularly liked it back then. It’s only recently that I discovered this kind of weird glam, slightly industrial anthem. We tried to bring a bit of that vibe into the track “Better Safe Than Sorry.”

ESPRIT 空想 & George Clanton - Warmpop

The textures you can find in George Clanton’s music, or more broadly in electronica, really guided me in the search for production ideas, synths, etc. I really like that lo-fi, cold, cheap, and dreamy synth aesthetic.
