5 Songs from The Faves

This week we’ve got music from LA rock act Kit Major, shoegazers Senior Living and Cashier, synth punk project Polevaulter and grungegaze band Tongues of FIre.

Our playlist was also updated with new tracks from Junebug, Endearments, Two-Man Giant Squid, Gardenia and more.

Cashier - Part Of Me

Louisiana shoegaze band Cashier has shared a new single from their forthcoming EP The Weight. According to bandmember Kylie Gaspard, the songwriting was enjoyable. “Musically, it’s a love letter to singing, and a celebration of rock guitar,” she says. “I was trying to find something playful for the verses, and I created this melody that goes back and forth with the guitars.” The song explores the connection between two people and how at times it can come apart. The Weight is out 3/13 via Julia’s War.

Polevaulter - The Cursor Is A Fly

What exactly do we gain in exchange when trading in human-level consciousness for a brain the size of a poppy seed? Maybe ignorance is bliss. “I’ve always wanted to be an insect,” sings vocalist Jon Franz of Polevaulter. The synth punk act has announced their new EP Descending, out 3/13.

Senior Living - cat lap

VIEWS / BUFFER /  SELF / AVOIDANCE / HELP / CONTROL. These words flash on a tv screen in Senior Living’s promo clips for their new single “cat lap.” The band says, “We kept referring to ‘cat lap’ as ‘the soup of the day’ during this song structuring process because something about this one sticks out from the rest of our catalogue.” The track also marks the beginning of something new for the Albany-based heavy shoegazers. “This was our first time messing around with loops and samples, fully leaning into the whole chronically online feeling.”

Tongues of Fire - Superficial

How do we manage to keep going without drowning in the chaos? Grungegaze band Tongues of Fire explores that feeling on their latest single “Superficial.” Singer/guitarist Lowell Hobbs says, "This new record isn't trying to give any answers but instead captures an experience shared by many. It's about the struggle to stay afloat and remain sane in America. 'Superficial' is a response to the endless torrent of surface level media that dominates our every waking moment." The song is off the band’s newly announced upcoming self-titled album, which will be out 5/13 on Godless America.

Kit Major - Not As Witty As I Used To Be

LA rock artist Kit Major has announced a new EP Miss Ego. On the first single, she shares, "’Not As Witty As I Used To Be’ is a mouthful, but a song this short needs length somewhere. It’s playful and a little unhinged. I’d rather spill my secrets shouting over guitars than in silence." Watch Major’s debut as a video director now.
