Lathe of Heaven - Aurora

Post-punk/new wavers Lathe of Heaven have announced a new album and have shared the title track. On “Aurora,” the band says, "A song loosely inspired by an Arthur C. Clarke short story called “If I Forget Thee, O Earth..." In the story a man and his son take a trip from their colony on the moon to a lookout point where Earth (long abandoned due to nuclear war) can be seen rising across the vast gulf of space. Playing with this concept, I took a more personal and romantic approach, exploring similar themes of loss, love, and devotion at the end of the world." Aurora is out 8/29 via Sacred Bones.

Kerosene Heights - New Tattoo

North Carolina emo band Kerosene Heights takes on the significance of change and transformation on their next album. “It was a theme that came up on its own,” says vocalist and guitarist Chance Smith. “There's a lot of things based on transition and change, as well as talk about the weather specifically. That's been an omnipresent thing in our lives with the hurricane, and it felt like it fit the mood and the throughline of the record.” The band’s new album Blame It On The Weather is out 8/15 via SideOneDummy.

phantom signals - sentimental

Last week, DIY indie rock shoegaze project phantom signals released moth. The 5-track EP was recorded live and engineered/mixed by Jeff Berner, with “each band member's personality and style [shining] through.” The opening track “sentimental,” the band says, "embodies the feelings of both thrill and regret when moving away from a community and life you love." The band played their final (!) show at Brooklyn’s Gutter Bar.

The SlimP - Nothing to Forget

After 16 years out of sight, Cologne-based darkwave band The SlimP has released “Nothing to Forget.” The song is a continuation of their atmospheric tones and lush soundscapes. The band notes that getting together was a joyous occasion. "It reminded us," says vocalist Elisa Day, "that music is often more than the sum of its parts." Expect more new music from The SlimP later this summer.

Joybomb - I, Paparazzi

There’s no doubt we’re perpetually addicted to our phones. Memphis alt-rock band Joybomb explores this scenario on their new song “I, Paparazzi.” As band member Grant Beatty explains, “‘I, Paparazzi’ is about self-surveillance, the degree to which we exploit ourselves and finely tailor and present real human experiences and desires to feed curated audiences for our own dopamine, social gratification, and sense of purpose or aggrandizement.”
