Shtëpi - Mrs Andrews
Art-punk band Shtëpi has released their debut EP CTRL + ALT + ROCK. The band says, “It's a product of 5 years playing in sweaty little rooms across the UK, and recorded in an equally sweaty little room in Peckham.” The EP was produced and engineered by Oli Middleton (The Smile, IDLES) and captures their sharp and chaotic live energy, which you can witness in the video from a few years back.
Palejoy - Next Goal Wins
Scottish emo band Palejoy has released their latest single “Next Goal Wins.” Described as “an emo anthem for anyone who has ever felt stuck in first gear,” it’s a relatable story of the inevitable frustrations that come during adulthood. “Turning 30, nothing to show for it. Societal pressure, I'm fucking done with this,” sings vocalist Dale Sutherland. At the same time, the song moves us forward, pushing us through the obstacles we feel trapped in.
Trashy Annie - Some Strange
Collaborating with Thommy Price (Joan Jett, Billy Idol) on their new single “Some Strange”, Austin rock band Trashy Annie muscles their way into the dive bar. It’s a tale “inspired by dirty biker bars, seedy motels, casual hookups, and the brutal honesty of life on the road.” Trashy Annie is led by songwriter and self-taught guitarist Annie Davis, who’s onstage persona is a direct confrontation to the people who have criticized her in the past.
Rose Haze - Love From Death
Oakland-based Rose Haze, the project led by songwriter Kate Ramsey, has released their new single “Love From Death.” The song is a tribute to her late bandmate and best friend Ruben Valdez Gonzales. The song was written and recorded in a Northern California cabin using Ruben’s guitar. On the song, Ramsey sings, “Together we will fight the demons of the night..With our light divine, we will always shine, Forever.”
Tom Cox - Better Weather
Songwriter Tom Cox will be releasing his home recorded debut album Modal Fixture. "I think the title relates to the lyrics in the songs, which each in their own way orbit around the ideas of living with abstractions and navigating ambiguity, recognizing the modal fixtures in life that are constant, ever-changing, and unknowable." Using analog mixers, vintage keyboards and tape machines, Cox creates a warm 70s pop nostalgia recalling the sounds of Todd Rundgren and Neil Young along with contemporaries like Wilco and Dr. Dog. Modal Fixture is out on August 15th.
