TVOD - rearview
Punk band Television Overdose (TVOD) has released their debut album Party Time. The title track is just as rowdy as you’d expect–equal parts good times and debauchery. “We had a bunch of friends come over to do backup vocals on ‘Party Time,’” the Brooklyn-based band shares. “We recorded ourselves getting drunk in the studio and had producers Félix and Sam record themselves talking shit about us in French for the end of the song.” Party Time is out now and can be purchased on vinyl via Bandcamp.
Talulah Paisley - Slink
Lyris Faron, from the riot grrrl band T-Rextasy, has unleashed her new project Talulah Paisley. On the second single “Slink,” she explores feelings that are often left-out. "’Slink’ is about this period where I felt disconnected from my desires,” she says. “I was looking for that part of myself again, and felt ashamed and lonely in not finding it. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is in on this secret but you. I feel like in mainstream media intimacy is often represented so narrowly and it frustrates me so much. It shows the same acts, the same feelings and the same identities over and over again. It’s always hot, it always works and everyone always wants it. No one is ever tired or in pain and it’s never awkward or even funny. In this song, I wanted to talk about an in-between space with intimacy." Talulah Paisley’s debut album Fool, will be out 6/11 via the People's Coalition of Tandy.
EERA - Forget About Her
Berlin-based EERA dives into self-examination on the new single “Forget About Her.” As EERA explains, “The song is about wanting to forget an older version of myself. A version that finds life difficult and tiring, a person that I used to be. “I used to have quite a lot of anxiety before, and back then I always wanted to remove myself from ‘her.’ It wasn’t until I accepted ‘her’ that I was able to move past it and therefore become a lot happier. ‘She’ will always be a part of me, and that is fine. I am just not going to allow her to take over completely.” The song, produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear, is the first single off of EERA’s upcoming album I’ll Stop When I’m Done coming this fall.
Lawn - Sports Gun
Lawn, the post-punk/indie rock duo from New Orleans, has dropped their new single “Sports Gun.” The song comes from a pre-pandemic short story written by co-lead singer Rui De Magalhaes. "‘Sports Gun’ is supposed to be written from the point of view of a coach/parental figure who pushes the subject to their absolute limit without regard for them otherwise,” De Magalhaes says. Lawn will be supporting Momma on a series of US dates this fall.
Ruff Hunter - Punching Darts
Working with friend collaborator Lolo over FaceTime, Australia-based Ruff Hunter explores the impermanence of life on “Punching Darts.” The new song “came from a feeling of disconnection—both from others and from myself,” says Hunter. “It’s about cycles that repeat, moments that blur, and the strange weight of realizing that time with loved ones isn’t endless.” More material from Ruff Hunter is on the way!
