CDSM - Reason To Stay
Last week, post-punk Atlanta band CDSM (Celebrity Death Slot Machine) released their debut album Convertible Hearse. On the closing track “Shockable Rhythm,” the band shares, “Kickstarted by a jolt of acapella vocoder rendering the words, “I am still alive”, the song depicts an accident involving a 16-wheeler, as well as memories from the near-death experience that followed. Minimal synthetic arrangements, supported by an electronically-enhanced disco pulse and interjected by melodic vibraphone chimes, team up to create an absolute cliffhanger for the album coda, prompting us to start the album over as we await the sequel." The band will embark on a tour this summer hitting cities along the East Coast. Convertible Hearse is out now via Mothland and EXAG’ Records.
Vinyl Williams - Eden
LA-based psych act Vinyl Williams, the solo project of visual artist Lionel Wiliams, will be releasing the double album Polyhaven / Portasymphony next month. The music video for the latest single “Eden” is a kaleidoscope of colors with real-life locations ranging from Long Beach and Guatemala to Mexico City. The double LP contrasts lo-fi and hi-fi recording techniques; Polyhaven used reel to reel and digital, while Portasymphony used a Tascam Portastudio. Polyhaven / Portasymphony is out 6/13 via Harmony Records.
People Taking PIctures ft. POW! Negro - Undone
Australia’s People Taking PIctures, which combines jazz, electronic and hip hop, has unveiled another track off their upcoming album. “Undone” features rhymes by MC/producer/visual artist POW! Negro, who puts his stamp on several of the album’s tracks. The music video is a collage of plates, with the band relaying, “Thanks to everyone who sent in food videos. I made this video in the van while we were driving across the USA so I needed all the help I could get.” Dialectics is out 6/19 via What Reality? Records.
Docents - Garden
New York post-punk band Docents recently dropped their EP Shadowboxing. On the opening track “Garden” band member WIll Scott says, “My lyrics tend to be drawn either from true stories I’ve encountered that feel ripe for the format of a docents song, or they are getting at a broader feeling through deeper abstraction. With ‘Garden,’ I felt compelled to speak a bit more clearly than I would otherwise about the present moment we are in. When a time comes beyond our history books or an understanding of the recorded word, there will still be ways in which we’ll be made accountable for our actions.” CDs with handmade cardstock sleeves can be purchased from Docents’ Bandcamp.
FUEDAL - Auto
FUEDAL, the EBM duo that is Troy Woodhall and Matt Francini, brings the heat on their new EP Max Continuous Power. According to the band, the release was recorded at their home studio from from 2023 to 2024. The 6-track release includes a remix of “Auto” by the experimental synth artist Auragraph. Cassettes of the EP, with additional remixes, are still on sale from Summer Darling Tapes.
