Odonis Odonis - Work It Out

Last week we got a new album from Canadian act Odonis Odonis. “Work It Out” fuses ideas around our social decline. As the band explains, "Work It Out" is a post-punk track about confronting the grind of modern life as AI, inflation, and collapsing markets threaten our ability to survive. Inspired by the loss of my 18 year career in animation, the song pairs dark urgency with humor. For the first time, I used AI creatively to make an AI slop video that reclaims the very force that cost me my livelihood, turning disruption into art. ‘The next creative revolution won't be aesthetic, it will be ethical’ ( Val @vongoval )” Their self-titled album is out now via Royal Mountain.

MX Lonely - Big Hips

After signing to Julia's War, alternative band MX Lonely shares the first single off of their upcoming album ALL MONSTERS. “‘Big Hips’ is a self-mocking celebration of youthful masculinity. Puberty imbues a sense of dread for everyone, but especially trans people,” says synthesist/vocalist Rae Haas. “For me, the onset of feminine curves was met with a sort of voyeurism I didn’t feel I was made to be proud of. ‘Big hips’ were something that happened to you rather than something you owned. The song recontextualizes the dysphoria of my youth in the way young boys would jovially proclaim the size of their phalluses (whether it was true or not). It’s a big dick joke.” ALL MONSTERS is out 2/20 and is available for pre-order now.

S.C.A.B. - LOVE

On their new single “LOVE” Queens indie rock project S.C.A.B. writes a heartfelt letter. “‘LOVE’ is the most direct song on the new S.C.A.B. record — just pure, unfiltered gratitude for the people, places, and moments that make life worth living. It’s a love song to New York, to family, to loss, to starting over.” The song is off the band’s sophomore album Somebody In New York Loves You! is out tomorrow. In support of the new album, the band plays a record release show in Brooklyn tomorrow at 94 Bogart.

blue heron holy ghost - Shift

Tennessee-based grungegaze project blue heron holy ghost dropped their latest album Lp this month. On the record, the act shares, “These songs have been a labor of love for the better part of 2 years now ; some tracks I’ve had completed since the “teressa” sessions. The songs on this record are pretty emotionally dark and have some of the most vulnerable lyrics I've ever done; I wasn't in a good place when I was writing a majority of the music on here and listening back to some of these songs takes a lot out of me.”

Sis and the Lower Wisdom - Wolf Child

Sis and the Lower Wisdom is an LA-based collective spearheaded by the singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jenny Gillespie Mason. The band’s upcoming album Saints and Aliens, out 1/9/26 via Native Cat Recordings, took two years to develop. The first single “Wolf Child” is an exercise in experimental pop, blending spiritual themes with electronic soundwaves.
